University Extension Subject
2014 – 2015, University of Barcelona
With the collaboration of:
Cartografia Artística (Artistic Cartography) is a University Extension Subject proposed from the Inter-Accions project and aimed at artists and architects. This is a self-assessed subject created to build a proposal for collective experimentation for the exchange of tools and knowledge from the shared organization of the subject.
Participating students are proposed to manage content, methodology and practice, that is, to decide what and how to learn through a horizontal process, with the objective of creating a critical and objective discourse on the social space contextualized in the urban space of the city. Thus, the subject is structured from:
1. Introduction to the social space in an urban context (Theory). Why talk about social space? What are the referents? What concepts and areas of action do they generate? What conflicts and dilemmas do they have? Exploration of the conceptions and social constructions existing around art and architecture based on the trajectory, experience and knowledge of the students.
2. Pedagogical research in case studies (Theory-Practice). Introduction to the methodological aspects of case studies from a constructionist perspective. Work based on case studies and their implications in research on social space in relation to knowledge and social participation in an urban context.
3. Intervention in the social space (Experimental Practice). Creation of a documentary archive related to projects of a social nature in various urban contexts. Performing an intervention in the social space and production of subjects that emerge from the case studies analyzed (representation, power and authority, capacity for action, dialogue, institutional frameworks, reflexivity, knowledge placed, subjugated knowledge, pedagogy as a political, etc.). Reflection on the process carried out and elaboration of guidelines and developed proposal.
